Sitting at the outside cafe in the picturesque village of Le Roque-Gageac on the Dordogne, it makes me want to draw. Like some of the many beautiful places we’ve visited on this trip, they make my mind wander to do so many other things, yes to draw, but also to paint, or to walk the hills and mountains, canoe along the rivers, cycle the cols. I’m not entirely sure why I have this overwhelming feeling of so much I would love to do, and yet so little time in which to do it? Maybe just the love for life and all there is to enjoy? Maybe my age and yes, of course the loss so suddenly of Rachel. She would say “So what did you do after I died”? It’s not my driving, or should I say riding, force, but it’s there in the back of my mind, and that remains some of her influence of who I am.
I’m starting to believe that in all the jobs I’ve had in my life that I’ve never been so overworked than during this present one of retirement! Maybe that says something about the jobs I’ve had in the past? 🤷🏻♂️
But it’s the best job I’ve ever had and I just love it!
Sunday
Reluctantly we departed Moureze, a village and hotel which just had that ‘I want to return here for a few days’ feel about it, and headed north to the infamous Millau Viaduct. This link explains it so much better than I could hope to do.
This is my version:
We arrived with great anticipation for our three night stay at our hotel in Sarlat, to be greeted by an English couple spouting the words “We won’t be staying here again”! We were taken aback as it seemed to tick every box on our list, but it soon became apparent that it was run by the French female version of Basil Fawlty, but without the humour!
I won’t go into detail, let’s just say we blame everything on the Americans!
Which leads me to the title of this post. Ernie and Jenny do their own blog and for me it is the highlight of this trip, well one of the many highlights. I look forward so much to their take on each day and badger them for their next post. But it has been known for Ernie to take the easy option and just ‘cut and paste’ my blog into his! But seriously, I enjoy reading their version of our journey together which, for my part, is going swimmingly.
Next post: Swimmingly
Would love to read Jenny and Ernie’s blog!
I’ll get onto it…
Look forward to hearing about Sarlat – one of the places we were hoping to visit. Lovely pics as usual x
That takes me back to 2005 when driving down to Spain with the caravan in tow. What a sight the Milau Viaduct was I always thought approaching it from the north heading south gave the best view amazing structure. Brings back happy memories. Great blog as always.
🤗👍🏼
It’s a while since I’ve been to Sarlat such a lovely place but with odd food. Lots of walnuts if I remember correctly ( which I like) lots of gizzards which were as awful as they sound – beware!!
😆👍🏼
